Ian Parker contributed his first piece to The New Yorker in 1994 and became a staff writer in 2000. He has profiled a range of cultural figures, including the poet James Fenton, the photographer Sebastião Salgado, the journalist Chrisopher Hitchens, and the singer Elton John. His August 2, 2004, article, “The Gift,” received the National Magazine Award for Profile Writing.

Parker came to The New Yorker from Talk, where he was a contributing writer. Before joining Talk, he was the television critic for the London Observer and a writer and editor at The Independent.

Parker lives in New York.
